Choosing a Field or Department 

Students often obtain the BS and MS in the same field or department. With advanced planning, some students complete the combined BS/MS program in two different fields; the combination of a BS in Civil Engineering and an MS in Fire Protection Engineering is a common example.  

Students are encouraged to review the various options available for pursuing the combined BS/MS program within a specific department or program by visiting the relevant section within the Graduate Catalog.  

Please Note: undergraduate credit may not be counted toward a graduate business degree. 

An Exciting Opportunity for WPI Alumni

At WPI, we’re continually developing new ways to express appreciation for our alumni. We're thrilled to announce that the BS/MS program has been broadened to allow WPI alumni to pursue an MS degree, with the double counting option, within five years of completing your BS degree.  Effective immediately, any alumni who graduated in 2019 or later, can take advantage of this opportunity. The Alumni Tuition Incentive will also apply to BS/MS alumni.

• If you’re already an MS student and you’re eligible to take part in BS/MS program, you will need to work with your department to make the transition. If you are an international student, contact your department as well as International Student and Scholars Office.
  • In order to transition to the BS/MS program you will need to have a signed and approved "Plan of Study" (check with your department) as well as a "Combined Bachelor’s/ Master’s Degree Program Course Designation Form." 
• If you’ve started an application to an MS program and would like to change it to BS/MS, contact grad@wpi.edu.
